Adventures in Adventuring

I am on the precipice of a whole lot of adventure and I am pretty giddy. Heading to Zion National Park with the family to celebrate my five-O and then attempting to tackle the summit of Mt.Washington. My hips hurt thinking about it all but nothing a big bottle of ibuprofen can’t handle. The funny thing about these escapades is that they’re work. Truth be told, the planning is almost as fun as the outing. Almost.

The husband calls me a chicken (the kind where the head is cut off). Isn’t he cute?

But he’s right. I get nutso the week leading up to any getaway. It’s like I have to finish every tiny to-do task before we leave. Plus you have to take out trash, run dishwasher, change cat litter, find dear heart to feed cat, lock windows, wash dirty laundry, clean out fridge, pay bills, check prescriptions, not forget to check-in flight, double check reservations, make packing list, make packing list for boys, check camping gear. Write a blog. I call it nesting; vacation style.

The good part of the work though is planning the adventure itself. Mapping out the driving route. Choosing amazing hikes and parks to visit. I spend a lot of time scanning Google maps for “green” areas.

I’ve also been saving zillions of FB posts pertaining to Zion and I had to sort through those nummy tidbits.

Sunday’s hike, “The Subway”. This pic make me think of Bear Gryls. The bottom left is the “extraction” point!

So, we’re leaving tomorrow and the bulk of work is done. After the chaos of getting out of the house and getting to the airport, I will officially be on adventure mode. I admit that I have to be at the gate the half hour before. The husband sits at the bar until they page his name over the intercom. Once I’m sitting on the plane in my aisle seat, all is good.

I want to thank all my readers for the positive and supportive feedback! I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog. I know I need to figure out how to add the subscription widget so you’ll be notified as soon as I click  the “publish” button. It’s on a list.

Have a blast…when you get back we should get a drink and celebrate 50. Remember when 50 was a lifetime away…and here we are with a life time…
